Finotta: Banking Platform
Working within time constraints to propose and develop new features for a fin tech application.
The Challenge
Finotta is a white label app platform that centers around helping everyday people “find the money” for the things they need and want, and seeks to get them further along on their financial journey in order to eventually accumulate long-term gains. They are looking to increase engagement during onboarding and making the application more entertaining via gamification to incentivize financial behavior change.
The solution
Ideate new features through competitive research and current state analysis in order to tackle Finotta’s goals within a 100-120 hour budget.
Methods
Competitive analysis
Stakeholder interview
Journey mapping
Feature cards
Kano survey
Wireframing

Stakeholder Interview
The team then met with a Finotta stakeholder to get more insights into what the company has been doing with their software and most importantly, what they’re trying to do with it in the future.
Here are the client goals for new feature development:
Increase engagement during onboarding.
Advance gamification concepts for incentivizing financial behavior change.
Leverage microinteractions for encouragement and support of behavior.
Integrate accessibility considerations.
Primary Users (application)
Individuals who want a personalized digital banking experience so they can better understand and achieve their financial goals as fast as possible.
Secondary Users (Admin/Bank Dashboard)
Credit unions and bankers who are looking to grow engagement with their customers and provide the best and cost-efficient financial tools possible to better their lives.
Journey Mapping
I then created a journey map to understand the path a user could potentially take when they discover, interact with, and evaluate the application. The journey map is particularly useful because it creates a through line that reveals potential pain points and areas of opportunity for potential new features (that are designed to address them).
Feature Cards
The team then created low fidelity feature cards to come up with a large amount of ideas that are then dot voted on to see which ones were going to be sent to a group of Finotta stakeholders and team members.
Kano Survey
This method was particularly useful because it provides valuable insight into what the participants feel both when the feature is present and not present from the final product.
Wireframing
Once the features are selected I created wireframes for them and presented them to the stakeholder in an annotated presentation packet. You can see the presentation here.
